Let’s Talk About:

Prototyping

Opportunities for ambitious and innovative work present themselves on every project. However, these ideas can be hard to communicate or difficult to evaluate early in a project.

At Viget, we've found that rapid, early prototyping offers a great way to try new and experimental approaches in a low-risk environment. At its best, a prototype provides an outlet for discovery, a centerpiece for critical discussion, and a useful tool for communicating new ideas.

Community Thoughts on Prototyping...

  1. 1. Sir Jonathan Ive: The iMan cometh “[the design process] is about designing and prototyping and making. When you separate those, I think the final result suffers.”
  2. 2. Build for Speed: How to Prototype and Test Any Product in Five Days For design to be the most useful to a business, you have to use it as shortcut. [...] You have to use it as a way to express your ideas and test it without launching.
  3. 3. Sketching in Code: the Magic of Prototyping With prototypes, the focus is always on the application and making it better, and it’s much easier to stay focused on value to the end user.
  4. 4. Paper Prototyping A major benefit of paper is the user-generated content that comes out of the feedback sessions.
  5. 5. Design Better with Rapid Prototyping Rapid prototyping helps teams experiment with multiple approaches and ideas, it facilitates discussion through visuals instead of words
