The Reflection Before Christmas

A holiday poem inspired by a year of camaraderie and teamwork.

‘Twas the Friday before Christmas, and all through the land

Out of office emails were being scheduled as planned

“We did it,” I thought — another year through

All thanks to our incredible crew

People are at the heart of it all

With Building a Better Digital World as their call

For me, though — and my People Team friends

That motto is only sometimes a lens

Our charge is to remove the friction and bumps

Leading with values, even in difficult slumps

Be Good, Real, and Brave in the work that we do

Learn and Grow, Teach and Share, and Collaborate too

We’re ready and waiting when Slack gives a clatter

And spring into action, no matter the matter

Responding to emails and pings in a flash

Lexie does it with emojis and panache

We help connect dots and bring levity

Encouraged by our VP, the one and only Emily

So when requests come in that could be quite scary

No fret, no fear! We do our best to make them merry

“My laptop apparently doesn’t like coffee”

“Any chance we can ship some thank you toffee?”

“Where do I find our resource library?”

SUBJECT: PTO Request - I’m getting married!

“Can my spouse (or trained Doodle) work from the office?”

“Is there alternative transport for those who get nauseous?”

“Do we have ready-made, on-brand deck templates?”

“Could you lend an ear? This problem seems endless.”

“Are you available for a quick practice run?

I want my Labshare to be clear to ev’ryone.”

“Where can I read more about our excellent perks?”

“Can you check if that webcam set-up still works?”

This year I answered these questions, and more

I even got asked about long-ago lore

Did you know Viget’s mascot is a rat?

I feel lucky to wear so many fun hats

There is no question too big or too small

Our team can count on us to answer the call

So when I think back to why this year was great

I can’t help but think about all of my teammates

I’m grateful for Cindy’s collab, and Kate’s leadership

For Nathan, Tommy, and Maria’s quick wit

The countless others and all of our Viget alum too

Thank you for all that you are and all that you do

I’m planning ahead to our twenty fourth year

The goal for all-hands, stand-ups, and retreats is clear

Flexible, collaborative, and people-first

Set time aside for those who are dispersed

Continue to listen and operate with care

And emphasize the work, serving our clients with flair

It’s a recipe for success, no matter the season

As People-Ops professionals know – it is the reason

This holiday season I’ll be taking a work nap

To rest and recharge before putting back on my thinking cap

Before I do, I’d be remiss to omit

Happy Holidays from all of us at Viget!
