A dog's perspective on her time at the annual Viget retreat.

Translated by Noah Over

Hello!

My name is Ruthie.

I'm not quite sure what my title is at Viget, but I'm pretty sure I'm in charge, or at least some sort of pseudo-celebrity around here. All I know for sure is that a lot of people kneeled, including the president, to greet me at our recent company retreat.

My personal assistant Noah also works at Viget. Unclear what he does, but I know he sits on the computer and doesn't cater to my every whim for about 8 hours a day.

This year, since Viget's annual retreat, also known as TTT, was near where Noah grew up in Bedford County, PA, I got to tag along and catch up with all my coworkers in person. However, before I could head to the retreat, I had to spend the majority of the week with my backup assistants, Noah's parents, because my presence would've been too much of a distraction for all my fans at Viget while they got real work done early in the week.

Finally, on Friday morning, Noah picked me up and escorting me to the resort location in the mountains. We started by hanging out on the deck of our luxury cabin and greeting people as they woke up for the day. Slowly building a buzz about my presence at the function.

Eventually, we walked up to the breakfast area and greeted people on the path along the way. I was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with all the new smells and all these new fans I was meeting for the first time. The parasocial relationship we had through Slack was great and all, but seeing them in person had me feeling off.

Luckily, we found a nice lounge area where everyone was sitting and relaxing and that made me a bit more comfortable. There were some hightop chairs that made a loud sound when they slid across the floor, but otherwise this spot was great. It allowed me to get a lot more one-on-one scratches with everyone and gave them a good opportunity to use their Viget-provided cameras to get some nice photos of me.

Once I had gotten comfortable again, I was forced back outside for a little walk through the woods to participate in a tree planting ceremony. Currently, these so-called "trees" looked like little more than fetch sticks, but I was told that they will grow into big trees someday. I believe they will be naming this new little patch of forest after me as well, but we're still waiting on the paperwork to come through on that.

After this fun walk, we got into the chill part of the day when I got to sit back, listen to several people talk about how they are keeping Viget running; including a presentation on Account Management from Kate, a presentation on the upcoming redesign of viget.com, and a Q&A with Brian; and maybe get a short nap in, but I was mostly paying attention to these presentations.

Though occasionally, I did need a break for some scratches. Just to make sure people didn't become too distracted by work and lose their focus on me.

Once all the presentations were finished, we had a quick lunch during which I hung out under the table hoping for scraps. Noah tried to feed me a cucumber at one point, but I wasn't feeling that. Was hoping for something more meaty. Luckily, dessert for this meal was popcorn from Bedford Candies, which I'm sure Noah has been saving for me to eat on some special occasion.

Finally, it was time to say goodbye. I got goodbye scratches from all of my fans, new and old. I even got to check in one last time with my former mentee from my stint in the Durham office, Emily.

Overall, I had a great time. It's always fun to sniff a new place and new people and I always love getting plenty of scratches. I'd definitely recommend joining us for our next retreat.
