VigeWeekly: Out and About

It was a busy (and short) four-day work week; but, we still managed to kick out a few blog posts and make it to both RailsConf in Portland and TechCocktail in Chicago.  Judging from the dev team's tweets, RailsConf has been a good trip and then some.  I can say first-hand that Frank and Eric did a great job with their first TechCocktail conference.  As expected, hanging out with Corey from Squidoo was fun and thought-provoking, and sharing ideas with all the other speakers and attendees was inspiring.  That said, after a long week of traveling, it's good to be home!

Inspire (Design)

Tom dug into VigetInspire with his inaugural blog post since assuming design directorship, writing "Defining the Designer."  He explained common characteristics of designers, admits they have egos, and pegged them as idealists (among other facets).  But, he takes it a step further by describing how five major trends are affecting the current state of design and asks readers to predict the future of web design.  What do you think is coming?

Extend (Development)

Tony also made his blog debut this week when he wrote, "Make Apple's Address Book Pull from Exchange."  We use both Macs and PCs here at the Lab, so we're always looking for the latest methods to bridge any gaps that exist between the two.

Engage (Marketing)

Steph details the importance of conveying true enthusiasm in her post, which anecdotally details a less-than-stellar writing assignment she once experienced.  Thankfully, we seem to have no shortage of optimistic clients here at Viget; but, in the rare case that a client's enthusiasm runs particularly low, creating compelling writing that's genuine can be challenging.

Also particularly challenging, we've learned, is softball.  (I know this will come as a surprise to you; but, we're not exactly a bunch of star athletes over here).  Even though we lost both games of our double-header today to take our record to 0-3, we did show some real improvement.  We'll get that first win any week now.
