Dear Scrabulous, I Like U, and I Like UI
Dear Scrabulous-
I’m a big Scrabble fan, and I know I’m way behind by just having hooked up with you this weekend. I also know there are people fighting over you (not such a bad problem to have) and I hope you hang around. I like your user interface mostly fine, but I’m wondering if you could tidy up a few small things.
Here’s what I currently see when I come in and have a look at you:
I’d rather see this (hope you’re not offended):
Oh, and there’s one thing I can’t seem to do anything with (it scares me to think about clicking it to find out). What exactly is the purple spot? Does it really “clear board tiles” ... ?:
Love,
P
PS, my friends and I have been working on a Facebook app ourselves. Let us know what u think of it and the UI. We’d luv to know.
UPDATE (APR1):
So the purple dot wasn’t as scary as I had thought (should’ve known I suppose). Here’s what I might do with it instead (the tab would only appear after tiles have been moved to the board):
yes! this is perfect!

Scrabulous, I concur with P.
Thank you for being awesome,
Shay
I’ve always had the biggest problem with swapping tiles....it may have changed, but it used to require you to click “swap tiles” and “drag the tiles on to the board,” which seems like the exact opposite of what I want to do. Maybe if a little bag appeared, and I could drag the tiles back into them?
@Doug - I haven’t swapped tiles yet, but must do so now. I’m curious.
I realized, after exploring the help section more, that the purple “clear board tiles” button is used to simply return any tiles that have been placed on the board (during the current turn) back to the tray. Makes sense. “Clear board tiles” wasn’t clear to me at first, so I’ve added an update image to the post to show what I might do instead.
I felt brave on one particular occasion so I clicked the “clear board tiles” dot.
“Now I know. And knowing is half the battle.”
Should not have had to do that though. I agree.

JQuery is cool. I recently combo’d it with shadowbox.js to make a gallery of recent projects. The cycle.js plug-in is also worth looking at for lots of ‘Flash-like’ transitions and animations.
