10 Great SEO Tools and Resources
UPDATE: As promised, I've added to the list thanks to our comments. Check it out!
We receieved an email from a friend asking for a few SEO resources, and it seemed to make sense just to throw them into a blog post. Here they are...10 of my favorite SEO tools:
- Google Keyword Tool: It is what it sounds like.
- Google Trends: Up and coming keyword trends.
- SEO Digger: A nifty little tool that shows what keywords you're currently ranking for on Google
- SEOMoz.org: An extensive collection of SEO articles, Q&A, and best practices - we have the paid subscription and it's worth every penny!
- SEOQuake: A must-have Firefox plugin.
- Search Engine Land: A good SEO blog.
- SearchStatus: A simple plugin that shows you Google and Alexa PageRank.
- SiteExplorer: Yahoo!'s indexing and linking statistics. This is a good general resource.
- WikiPedia's SEO article: A great place to start.
- WordTracker: An excellent keyword research tool.
There you have it! Let me know what your favorite tools are. If your comments offer some good links, I'll update the post with the links and link back to the author, thus completing the SEO Circle of Life.
Some additional tools from our friends:
- Thanks to David for these:
- Advanced Web Ranking
- SEO Elite
- Market Samurai - Useful tool for researching keywords and SEO competition. Market Samurai plugs into several tools including Google’s keyword research tool.
- CopyScape
- Thanks to Nicholas for this little fella:
Bring on some more!
Great list. Having SearchStatus on my browser is a great way to get a quick idea of how “important” a site is and SiteExplorer helps know how many other sites are pointing at you.
Thanks for sharing Josh. I think you missed out a few important tools. Here is my response: http://on.eti.me/seo/10-essential-seo-tools/
@David: Cool that you intended to post a response with more tools, but pidgin as an SEO tool? Seriously? You have to admit that makes your judgment suspect at best.
@M. Jackson Wilkinson Haha, I knew that could be disputed. Point is though for SEOs serious about promoting linkbait it’s important to have a system for managing contacts. My opinion is that Pidgin does that well. You disagree?
@David:
Thanks for the comment. I definitely missed more than a “few” important tools--I just listed 10 of my favorites with the hope that others would add to this list. I feel like you may have missed the last paragraph of my post?
“Let me know what your favorite tools are. If your comments offer some good links, I’ll update the post with the links and link back to the author, thus completing the SEO Circle of Life.”
Or did you comment because of my request?
And you like Woopra? I couldn’t stand it.
Hey Josh! You showed me up for sure. I just scanned the list and missed what you wrote in the last paragraph! What you said there is good, sorry I missed it!! Well I took the opportunity to create my own little list, I hope you found it an interesting read all the same.
Hey how come you don’t like Woopra? I’ve found it to be the best real time web stat tracking tool out there. It’s much better than GetClicky in my opinion… I don’t think Woopra should replace GA, but it’s great for checking real time stats if you’re launching a linkbait article etc.
Anyways it’s good to hear back from you Josh, thanks for that. Would be cool to chat on IM… Are you on any? Here are my details- MSN: itsdavidtowers@live.co.uk, AIM: itsdavidtowers, Google Talk: itsdavidtowers@googlemail.com
Great list, Josh! Bookmarking this one.
I also use Google Analytics for SEO. Tracking actual keyword usage and referrals is key for SEO. Maybe it’s a bit obvious, but it works.
SEO Digger is no longer working :(
As you wrote in this post title, those are great SEO tools and resources. Keep up the good work
Really enjoyed your list of SEO tools. Thanks for sharing.
