Senior Ruby on Rails (RoR) Developer

Viget Labs is a full-service web consulting and development firm headquartered in Falls Church, VA with an office in Durham, NC.  We've been at it since 1999 and have earned a solid reputation as a rare firm that does both great design and development work when building award-winning web sites.  We work with early-stage web start-ups (e.g, Squidoo, Odeo, Spoonflower, and a few we can't talk about yet), as well as mature businesses (e.g., National Geographic, Choice Hotels) and non-profits (e.g., PBS, EarthEcho).

Our Senior Ruby on Rails (RoR) developers:

  • Have formal software development training and practical experience building web sites in Rails.
  • Are creative problem-solvers in the truest sense and match that logic with hard work.
  • Actually enjoy working with others, which is vital in our collaborative environment that balances knowledge sharing with blocks of focused, uninterrupted production time.
  • Speak and write exceptionally well.
  • Are ravenous about learning new technologies, tackling new challenges, paying attention to details, and, ultimately, growing professionally.
  • Multi-task and hit firm deadlines while tapping into their knowledge of XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, and basic web usability standards.
  • Know JavaScript, and at least one other language.
  • Have a firm grasp on relational database design and normalization.
  • Enjoy Agile methods, Scrum meetings, and test-driven development.
  • Create / contribute to one or more open source projects.
  • Love working along our award-winning design team.
  • Have experience with automated testing; test-driven development is even better.
  • Have working knowledge of Unix operating systems, including experience with the command line interface.
  • Actively participate in the local developer / technology community

To be considered to work at Viget Labs, you should exhibit these characteristics too.

Senior RoR Developers must also:

  • Have at least 5-8 years of professional experience developing web applications.
  • Have experience managing other developers on a project team as a lead developer.
  • Have experience working directly with clients to help define requirements and architect systems.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems (or equivalent experience).
